In the East of England new mechanisms for delivering support for tourism development and marekting have been pursued between the Regional Development Agency and Sub-regional Economic Partnerships (SREPs). In 2006 The Tourism Company was commissioned by the two SREPs for Greater Cambridge and Peterborough to prepare a tourism strategy and action plan for their combined area, creating a vehicle for local authorities and the private sector to work together. Much of our work centred on how the image of Cambridge, as a world leading centre for science and learning, could be used more creatively to benefit a wider area, generating and spreading tourism spending while also addressing the management challenges in and around the city.
