Client: Kingstonfirst
Kingstonfirst is the Business Improvement District (BID) elected in 2004 to manage and develop Kingston town centre. This BID was the first one in the country to be established and it has since been extended into a second five year term (BID2) covering 2010-2015.
Like other BIDs, the focus of activity has been on increasing footfall in the town centre by creating a cleaner environment, a safer community and a more accessible town centre. Following consultation with the BID area businesses, new target areas have been identified for BID2 in addition to the existing service provision, one of which is tourism development and destination management.
The aim of this consultancy was to provide a rationale for the BID’s involvement in tourism and to consider the options for how the BID might best engage with partners within and outside the BID area. This issue is relevant to the other 25 BIDs in London, many of whom are in a similar position of having to develop a tourism offer that extends beyond their formal boundary.
