Snowdonia Visitor Gifting Research

Client: Snowdonia National Park Authority
Date: 2012
The Tourism Company was commissioned to undertake an audit of proposed and existing visitor gifting (VG) schemes in and around the Snowdonia National Park. The study was split into three main phases, the first of which involved identifying existing visitor gifting schemes. We then interviewed visitor gifting scheme representatives and undertook stakeholder consultation. This study was part of a broader deliberation as to how best engage with visitors to the area in order to more directly involve them in the protection of the area’s special qualities. Visitor gifting was being looked at as one possible mechanism for this and as such there was a desire to understand whether and how this might be pursued in Snowdonia and the wider area.

A particular impetus for the work stemmed from a visitor gifting conference which the Park Authority hosted in October 2011. Delegates at the conference agreed that more research was needed and that there was a particular need to establish baseline data regarding visitor gifting schemes currently operating locally.
