As part of the preparation for the Rio +20 Earth Summit in 2012 we were commissioned by the UNWTO to prepare a report on tourism performance and challenges facing the world's 52 Small Island Developing Sates (SIDS). Stretching from the Caribbean to the Indian and Pacific Oceans, most of these countries are highly dependent on tourism. The study addressed key issues for their sustainable development, including competitiveness, socio-cultural impacts, accessibility and the impact of climate change.
