Research into Tourism budgets and the future of Visitor Information Services

Client: Visit England
Date: 2010

With cuts already underway in the public sector and with more looming, tourism budgets are under more scrutiny than ever before.

In light of this, and in consultation with VisitEngland, The Tourism Company undertook research to gain a snapshot of current local funding for tourism in general, and Visitor Information Services in particular. The aim of the research was to see what effect, if any, the financial situation is having on local tourism delivery plans and therefore, possibly, on VisitEngland's strategy for visitor information delivery (including Tourist Information Centres). The research involved an online survey being sent to a sample of tourism budget holders within local authorities, Destination Management Organisations (DMOs) and a range of other private and public sector bodies.
